What if your child separates after receiving his or her inheritance?

Does your child's spouse get half of his or her inheritance when they separate after you have died? Can your son or daughter place their inheritance into a separate investment in their name only so that the inheritance asset is not part of their shared family property during family law litigation? You need to discuss these issues with the lawyer who drafts the Will to make sure that the Will says exactly what you want in such circumstances. If the inheritance is invested into the couple's matrimonial home it may not be possible to keep the inheritance out of the divided family law property. Please carefully consider these issues.
