Minors: Children under age 18
If any of your children or grandchildren are under 18 years of age, then their share of the estate, if any, will need to be invested until they reach age 18. Do you want that money to be invested by the Government of Ontario or by your Executor and Trustee? If that child needs funds for an important reason before age 18 should your Executor have the power to pay out some of the share to their parent or guardian before they turn age 18? A Will should give specific authority to your Executor to receive and invest the share until the child reaches age 18 and pay some of it out before age 18, if necessary.
