Most wills direct the primary residue to the spouse
Assuming your spouse is alive, you will probably want to give everything that is left over after payment of taxes, debts, and charities to your spouse. Usually this payment of residue is described in terms that contemplate the spouse surviving at least 30 days beyond your death, to cover joint accidents. Therefore the remaining funds are left to your spouse if she/he survives beyond thirty days following your death.
